What prompted you to create this webcomic?

I... don't really know why the hell I'm doing this.  Like so many other things, it seemed like a good idea at the time, so I ran with it.  Sän Inman challenged me to a page-a-week comic drawing contest in December 2004; I ignored that challenge completely until at least next April, but it still deserves some of the credit.

What is your basis for the faerie lore contained within your webcomic?

I'm culling bits and pieces from everywhere.  A lot of it comes from stuff I read as a child (novels, fairytales, bits of mythology).  I've cannabalized a couple of my unfinished novels for ideas for both science and magic.  Right now Lacunae is a mash-up of everything, predominantly the 'classic' stuff.  What I think of as classic, at least:  crossroads and changelings and illusions and very tricky human-fae relations.

How did you come up with "dreamburnt?"

"Dreamburnt" is from dream-burned, which is what the Eshva (the second rank of demons) were called in Tanith Lee's Flat Earth series.  In retrospect, I wish I'd gone with something a bit more original, but I haven't thought of anything better.
